The 28th Pichi Richi Marathon was another big success with a record number of 394 entrants. The weather gods helped the event with a bit of wind and plenty of sun. This year Mark Bloomfield was crowned King of the Ranges after a great fight with local favourite Yilma Woldgabreal. The Queen of the Ranges title went to Mandy Towler for the second time in a row.
Mathew Kinsele , Yilma Woldgabreal, Mark Bloomfield, Mandy Towler, Nicole Butterfield and Mayuko Kurashima For the first time in its history the Pichi Richi marathon included a race for the young active generation: the 1 Km Fun Run or IGA Quorn Junior Dash. Most participants only have seen the back of winner Bernhard Viljoen. The full results can be viewed in the Results page. The age category winners are shown below: AGE CATEGORY WINNERS
QUOTES FROM RUNNERS "The Pichi Richi event has become my personal favourite marathon (having done Adelaide, Melbourne, Great Ocean Road and Paris, etc) because of the landscape, the intimate nature and solitude of the run and the gentle upward slope through the hills that is inspiring. This is why I have always organised a group of SA Road Runners to accompany me each year in this event." "The Pichi Richi run has the challenge of a steep course, but not too slow as it's all on sealed roads. It's uphill all the way, so that 'second wind' never quite kicks in - but what an amazing sense of achievement when you cross the finish line. It's great running in the really fresh air of the Flinders Ranges, too."
